Wharf Casino in Queenstown has closed down!

Casino Wharf was bought by Skycity Group in 2013 but is now closed entirely. What has happened is that the Skycity group has not managed to reach an agreement with the owner of the building.

At the same time, New Zealand’s own law has set sticks in the wheels because it says that you cannot relocate a casino, which has made it difficult for Skycity group.

Since they already have another casino in the same area, namely the Queenstown casino, they decided to close down the Wharf casino completely, at least until they manage to come to an agreement with the owner of the building and/or until they are allowed to actually move the casino somewhere else.

This leaves us Kiwis with only 5 land based casinos around the country.
